Welcome to the Energy Futures Initiative Hydrogen Transition Framework web application. The tool compiles data on the various elements that may contribute to a hydrogen hub in a given area and classifies them as follows:
Excellent: Areas that are excellent score in the 99th percentile of a category – they have all, nearly all, or most of the elements within 1 category.
Very Good: Areas that are very good score in the 90th percentile of a category – they have at least one extremely important element that scores well.
Good: Areas that are good score in the 75th percentile of a category – they are endowed with more than most areas in the U.S. but do not achieve the threshold for ‘Very Good’.
All: Most areas in the country have some elements, described in the Hydrogen Transition Framework, that can be used for hydrogen market development, but lack a sufficient amount of activity to be considered ‘Good’.
TO USE THE TOOL, use the search box in the upper right-hand corner to navigate to a place of interest, or scroll in and out of the map. Click on circles one at a time in the legend to turn hex tiles on. Click on hexes to explore elements in them.
In most cases, elements are self-explained. In some instances, a categorization of ‘N/A’,’Fair’, ‘Strong’, and ‘Very Strong’ appear in the dropdown menu. These categorizations describe the relative strength of the element in the context of the entire
United States. ‘Very Strong’ signals the element scores among the best across all areas where that element is present – quantified by being greater than the 3rd quartile * 1.5.; ‘Strong’ signals the element is above the 3rd quartile; ‘Fair’ signals the element is above the median. N/A means the area was assessed and no activity for that element was detected.
