Paddy Ryan is Managing Editor at the EFI Foundation.
Ryan comes to the EFI Foundation from the University of California (UC) Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation, where, as senior writer and editor, he worked with international security experts from 10 UC campuses and two affiliated U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratories to amplify their impact of their research within the Washington, D.C. policy community. Ryan was previously assistant director for European energy security at the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center where, in addition to his work on transatlantic energy and climate policy, he edited the center’s blog, EnergySource, and wrote on the geopolitics of clean energy supply chains. Prior to this, Ryan wrote for Britain’s The Spectator, the world’s oldest continuously published magazine, and served in editorial roles for publications based on Capitol Hill and in London.
Ryan earned a master’s degree in international relations from the London School of Economics, and a bachelor’s degree in history and philosophy from UC Los Angeles (UCLA). In 2023, he was recognized as a European Union-U.S. Emerging Leader in Energy Security by the European External Action Service and the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
