In 2024, the work of the EFI Foundation (EFIF) further solidified our position as a preeminent thought leader in crafting science-based solutions to achieve a secure, affordable, low-carbon energy future.
We released reports and engaged in high-level discussions in areas ranging from carbon capture and storage, nuclear energy scaling, hydrogen markets and communities, and the policy frameworks essential for advancing a low-carbon economy. Our work and publications are driven by a guiding commitment to pragmatism and scientific integrity, with analysis that identifies specific, actionable pathways to accelerate energy innovation.
Energy policy is undergoing significant changes following Donald Trump’s return to presidential office in 2025. As we offer the blueprints for a low-carbon transition our commitment to reach all stakeholders remains as steady as the day we were founded.
EFIF’s 2024 Annual Report provides a summary of our accomplishments from the year, highlighting key reports, partnerships, convenings, and institutional milestones. These include:
- Demand Initiatives for Clean Energy: As the year began, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) selected EFIF as the lead organization in a consortium to design and advance demand mechanisms for low-carbon commodities, starting with hydrogen. That work carries on in 2025.
- Solutions-Focused Expert Analysis: EFIF published reports on electricity load growth, nuclear energy scaling, carbon dioxide removal, ethanol decarbonization, the integration of clean hydrogen within the U.S. economy, and more.
- Nuclear Scaling Initiative (NSI): In partnership with the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) and Clean Air Task Force (CATF), we announced NSI at New York Climate Week in September 2024. NSI’s mission is to enable the rapid expansion of safe and secure nuclear energy to help satisfy growing global demand for reliable carbon-free electricity.
- Thought Leadership: Our influence as thought leaders encompassed congressional testimonies, opinion pieces in prominent print outlets, and appearances at high-profile global summits, including COP29.
- Welcoming Leaders in the Energy Transition: We appointed new executive leadership, bringing in April Salas as Chief Operating Officer, and introduced distinguished members of our Global Advisory Committee, Heidi Heitkamp, Sally Benson, and Adnan Amin.
Since its inception in 2017, EFIF’s analysis has informed the creation of more than 10 federal initiatives, including a proposed national strategy for carbon dioxide removal, new incentives to encourage clean energy investment, and the creation of DOE’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations.
Our 2024 Annual Report places these initiatives and EFIF’s work within the broader narrative of U.S. technological development, reaffirming a practical and fact-based approach as the foundation for building a thriving, low-carbon economy that will be sustainable and prosperous well into the future.
We invite both our longstanding supporters and those newly introduced to EFIF to explore this report for a deeper understanding of our vision for the future—and the ways to get there.
