Lisa Wood is a nationally recognized expert on energy issues and the electric power industry. While at the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) from 2008 to 2023, she served as Vice President of Customer Solutions, Vice President of The Edison Foundation, and the founding Executive Director of EEI’s Institute for Electric Innovation (IEI).

Wood currently serves on the Board of Advisors for Mobility Impact Partners and as a Senior Advisor to the National Energy Foundation.

As EEI’s VP of Customer Solutions, Wood oversaw initiatives focused on corporate customer sustainability solutions, military customer solutions, residential customer services, and electric transportation. She collaborated with a Customer Solutions CEO Policy Committee, a Customer Solutions Executive Advisory Committee, and a CEO Task Force on Electric Transportation.

Key initiatives under Wood’s leadership include: identified pathways for electric utility-provided 100% carbon-free energy solutions for corporate customers, Designing 100 Percent Carbon-Free Energy Solutions; spearheaded an electric industry-wide initiative focused on more effective ways to serve low- to moderate-income customers; launched the National Electric Highway Coalition, an electric industry collaborative focused on building out DC fast chargers along major travel corridors across the U.S.; developed an annual database of Electric Company Carbon Emissions Intensity Rates for use by corporate customers in reporting their Scope 2 carbon emissions related to delivered electricity.

In 2008, Wood launched EEI’s Institute for Electric Innovation (IEI) and was Executive Director until 2022. In 2011, Wood launched IEI’s annual event Powering the People focused on innovation in the power sector. In 2012, she created the IEI Technology Partner Roundtable. In collaboration with IEI’s Management Committee of electric company CEOs and Senior Executives and a select group of technology companies, Wood provided thought leadership on current issues and trends in the electric power industry. Under her leadership, IEI published three volumes of Key Trends Driving Change in the Electric Power Industry, two volumes of Innovations Across the Grid, and numerous other publications.

She served as a Nonresident Senior Fellow in the Energy Security and Climate Initiative at The Brookings Institution from 2011 to 2014; as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service where she taught Energy in a Low-Carbon World from 2011 to 2014; and as an Adjunct Professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in 2015.  

Wood is the former Board Chair and a former Board Member of the National Energy Foundation. She is the former Treasurer and a Board Trustee of International Arts & Artists. She formerly served as an Advisor to GE Current, on the Board of Directors for Energate, Inc., and on the Board of Directors for the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance.

Prior to joining EEI, Wood was a Partner with The Brattle Group; a Principal with PHB Hagler Bailly; and a Program Director at RTI International.  She holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. from Rutgers College.
