Attention to carbon dioxide removal (CDR) has grown in recent years as policymakers and companies look for additional options to meet net-zero climate commitments. Bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) is the only suite of technologies with the potential to produce both clean energy and net-negative carbon dioxide emissions. Yet there is currently no holistic policy framework to guide BECCS development in the United States.
At this event hosted at Resources for the Future (RFF) on June 27, 2023, the EFI Foundation presented a new report on the case for policymakers to accelerate BECCS deployment and the ways to do so, including maximizing the social, economic, and environmental co-benefits of BECCS and establishing rules of the road for responsible large-scale deployment.
