In 2021, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a distinguished group of international scientists, released a dire assessment on the trajectory of climate change. The survey follows the group’s 2018 report that urged that some form of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) is needed to limit warming to no more than 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius, the best-case global warming scenarios that stave off even more harm from climate change.
Carbon dioxide removal can be a significant component in the drive towards a net-zero future. The Energy Futures Initiative has completed multiple reports on pathways for decarbonizing the environment, and this fact sheet surveys the broad landscape of carbon capture.
