Moniz Quoted in The New York Times on Plutonium Reprocessing

The Trump administration has implemented a plan for providing Cold War-era plutonium to private companies for reprocessing into nuclear power plant fuel. The New York Times quoted Ernest J. Moniz from a 2025 statement where he shared that these efforts “would introduce long-recognized security risks and have the unintended consequence of impeding nuclear energy expansion just as momentum builds for such an outcome.”
