WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 16, 2025): The EFI Foundation (EFIF) is delighted to announce that April Salas has joined EFIF as its Chief Operating Officer.
Salas joins EFIF from Microsoft’s Environmental Sustainability Team, where she was Global Director of Public Policy, developing and advancing positions on key global policy and legislative initiatives across Microsoft’s global sustainability focus areas of carbon, energy, waste, water, and ecosystems. Salas’ portfolio included leading the company’s public policy strategy related to AI and accelerating the energy transition; carbon reduction across the supply chain including semiconductors, steel, and cement; and advancing access to zero carbon sources of power, including advanced nuclear.
Prior to Microsoft, Salas was the inaugural Executive Director of Dartmouth College’s Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society and founding Executive Director of the Revers Center for Energy, Sustainability, and Innovation at the Tuck School of Business. In those roles, she led the $180 million interdisciplinary research institute with hubs for research and translation of critical technology, finance, and policy solutions across climate, energy, and society. Salas led the restructuring of the institute, including strategy, finance, human capital, and external, board, and donor engagement.
“We are delighted to welcome April to our leadership team,” said EFIF Founder and CEO Ernest J. Moniz “April brings the combination of policy knowledge, industry expertise, and executive leadership that we value at EFIF. Her record of proven accomplishment will be invaluable for guiding our expanding scope of research initiatives.”
Salas has deep board experience and brings over 20 years of public- and private-sector experience in global and domestic capital markets. Holding positions spanning the U.S. Department of Energy to early-stage technology companies, her broad industry knowledge covers a range of energy, sustainability, and climate domains, including conventional energy, renewable energy, technology integration, and finance. In addition to her professional experience, Salas holds four master’s degrees, including an MBA from Cornell University; an MBA in International Business from Queen’s University’s Smith School of Business; an M.A. in International Affairs, Conflict Resolution, and Civil Society Development from American University of Paris; and an M.A. in International Security and Economics from L’Institut Catholique de Paris.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the EFI Foundation as we continue to work toward building a secure, prosperous, low-carbon future. The need for a pragmatic, bipartisan approach to energy innovation has never been more vital, and EFIF has proven successful in providing the kind of impactful analysis America–and the world–needs to advance technological innovation for a low-carbon future, while safeguarding energy security,” Salas said.
