Marisa Buchanan and Tom Fanning Join EFI Foundation Global Advisory Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 25, 2026) — The EFI Foundation (EFIF) today announced that Marisa Buchanan, senior vice president of strategic corporates & partnerships at bp, and Tom Fanning, former chief executive officer of Southern Company, have joined its Global Advisory Committee (GAC). Buchanan and Fanning bring deep expertise in energy infrastructure, finance, and sustainability to EFIF’s efforts to develop evidence-based solutions to the world’s most pressing energy challenges.

EFIF’s GAC brings together leaders from industry, government, academia, and civil society to provide strategic guidance on emerging energy and climate challenges and to help shape the organization’s independent, nonpartisan analysis. The committee, which meets annually, is chaired by Lord John Browne of Madingley, co-chairman of the U.K. Prime Minister’s Council on Science and Technology and managing director at General Atlantic; and Franklin (Lynn) Orr Jr., emeritus professor in petroleum engineering at Stanford University. Tom and Marisa join this distinguished committee which includes Heidi Heitkamp, former U.S. Senator from North Dakota; and Adnan Amin, chief executive officer of the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28). Fanning is a nationally recognized leader in critical infrastructure security and resilience who served for more than four decades at Southern Company, retiring on December 31, 2023 as CEO. “I look forward to working with EFIF and my fellow GAC members to help address the complex challenges facing the energy sector and identify opportunities for innovation,” said Fanning.
