The U.S. Department of Energy has long played a key role in driving innovation and economic growth, supporting national security, and maintaining U.S. competitiveness. Despite an expanded mandate from Congress, DOE’s outdated structures are limiting its ability to effectively invest in breakthrough technologies, especially in growing markets in clean energy.

The Energy Innovation Project was created to help sharpen America’s energy innovation tools by providing transparent data, unbiased analysis, and recommendations for new approaches for accelerating breakthroughs

Supporting American Energy Leadership

The Energy Innovation Project is developing the resources to support public and private efforts for long-lasting American energy leadership.

For decades, Congress has expanded DOE’s mandate to fund projects across all “valleys of death” to ensure innovations reach the marketplace. This enables the United States to compete. Analyzing progress is challenging enough, yet the relevant data is often buried across hundreds of static government reports.

The Energy Innovation Project assembles energy innovation data and provides insights into progress for public and private sector stakeholders.

Watch the launch of the Energy Innovation Project on Wednesday, April 22 with Sec. Ernest J. Moniz, Anne Simpson, Tom Fanning, Alex Kizer, and Sarah Frances Smith here.
